Keeping Your New Year's Resolution

By Sarah Murphy

2018 is coming to an end, which means it's time to think about your New Year's Resolutions. The biggest struggle with New Year's Resolutions is keeping them. Did you know it takes only 30 days to form a habit? That's why this year, Oxygen One is having an office Wellness challenge throughout the whole month of January. Together we will be healthy!

Since the Oxygen One team is coming together to be healthy, we thought we'd share 5 steps that will help you stick to those resolutions; even if you have fallen off course:

1.  Keep Trying!

  • It does not matter how many times you take a step backward. Try again and start over. Set a new date and don't wait until next year.

2.  Don't over aim

  • It is difficult for the average person to break one habit, do not give yourself three or four resolutions to tackle at once. Stick to one resolution at a time.

3.  Make a promise

  • Verbalize to yourself and friends what you are doing. By telling friends, you're letting other people help you and keep you on track.

4.  Get support

  • Find support groups that can help you stay on track. There are hotlines for quitting smoking or exercise groups for weight loss. There are also counseling agencies to help reduce debt. Support will make all the difference.

5.  Set small goals

  • By setting small goals, you can measure your progress. These smaller goals help you see your accomplishments and help you work towards the bigger goal.

It does not matter how many times you continue to try, as long as you keep trying! Keep a positive mind. If you don't believe you can do something, then you probably can't. You can do anything you put your mind to.

Here's to a great New Year!
