Equipment Showcase
Portable oxygen comes in many shapes and sizes to fit diverse clinical and
lifestyle needs. Because every patient we serve is a unique individual,
Oxygen One offers several portable oxygen systems. Oxygen should not keep
you from getting out and enjoying life.
Each portable system provides oxygen a little differently and not everyone
can be clinically treated by every system. To make sure that your portable
oxygen is working for you, one of our State Licensed Clinicians will test your
blood oxygen level during your clinical respiratory visit.
Lingo to Learn:
OCD: Oxygen Conserving Devices.
OCDs deliver a “pulse” or burst of oxygen (known as a bolus) when a breath is
taken. There are several types of OCDs (Pulse and Demand), and each
delivers oxygen in a different way. OCDs greatly increase how long your
oxygen in a portable device will last; however, not everyone receives beneficial
therapy with an OCD, as some individuals require a continuous flow. For
more information
lpm: Liters Per Minute. Your
prescription is described as a flow rate of how much supplemental oxygen you
need per minute. Units with oxygen conserving devices use the label of
settings instead of lpm, because they deliver oxygen with inhalation and not a
set amount per minute.
Respiratory Rate: The rate
at which we breathe is approximately 15-20 times per minute. For portable
units that use an OCD, how long your portable lasts may depend on your
respiratory rate. The higher your respiratory rate, the faster your oxygen
will be used.
POC: Portable Oxygen Concentrator.
A POC is a mini-concentrator that operates on a battery or AC/DC power.
POCs separate the oxygen from room air, just like a home concentrator.
Provided that the battery is charged or the unit is plugged in, you will never
run out of oxygen, and most come with a car adapter so they can be plugged in
while driving. POCs are also the only form of oxygen approved by the FAA
for air travel.
Portable Liquid Systems: This
system requires users to fill a small ambulatory unit with liquid oxygen from a
home stationary unit (also called a reservoir). There are no electrical
requirements, and the units operate quietly. Your stationary unit will be
refilled by Oxygen One depending on your specific usage.
TransFill Systems: This system
allows users to fill special cylinder tanks from a compressor in your home.
This eliminates the need for regular deliveries to exchange used tanks.
The tanks can be filled as often as necessary.
Regulator: A device that is
attached to a cylinder tank that controls the pressure and lpm of the oxygen
delivered.

Patient’s Resources Page for more information on home oxygen therapy.
Types of Equipment
The following are a few pieces of equipment that
Oxygen One provides. The amount of time each unit provides is approximate
and depends on each patient, their respiratory rate, and whether a pulse dose
setting is used. Our staff will help you determine what system is right
for your lifestyle and is clinically appropriate for you.
**All values are approximate and based on a
patient breathing 20 breaths per minute and using oxygen at 2 lpm or a setting
of 2.

Portable Gas Systems
Invacare Venture HomeFill and DeVilbiss iFill are
two transfill systems that provide complete independence by allowing you to fill
cylinders in your home. Both require special tanks and a variety of sizes
are available. If you do not use a transfill system, you can also receive
standard oxygen tanks.

**In addition to a liquid portable device you will
need a stationary reservoir to fill it from. These are on average
35”Wx15”Hx22”D but will vary between manufacturers and models. The number
of times you can fill your portable from your stationary unit will also vary on
its size and liter capacity.
